London woodwind tutor
Alongside my performance career, I am an experienced and dedicated woodwind teacher. I run a private teaching practice, and tutor at schools and music centres across London.
I recently graduated with distinction from the Master's programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have been a tutor since 2010 - I have a clear, up-to-date, enhanced DBS certificate and am trained in child safeguarding to level 2.
I teach flute, clarinet, saxophone and music theory to all ages and abilities. My hourly fee is £40, and I am happy to travel to pupils’ homes if it fits in with my current schedules. If you would like to contact me regarding lessons, please use the following contact details:
About my teaching
My lessons are designed around the goals of each individual pupil. These goals can include: playing concerts in groups; taking graded exams; improving technique; playing and improving for fun; learning to read music; learning to improvise. I teach through various styles of music, including classical, jazz, traditional (folk) and contemporary (pop). I have a lot of experience teaching adults: my youngest current student is six, my oldest in his seventies. Some students take a regular weekly or fortnightly slot, and others book occasional, flexible lessons.
I have been a music tutor since 2010, and have worked in music full-time since 2016. I am a consultant music tutor for the London Music Centre, and teach at the Wandsworth Music Academy. I also teach at secondary and primary schools, and at students’ homes across London. My teaching work includes tutoring beginners up to beyond grade 8, adults and children, one-to-one and whole classrooms, instrumental lessons and music theory, and coaching youth orchestras. I am employed to teach the clarinet, saxophone, flute, recorder and theory in schools, music centres and for my own private practice. I have taught plenty of adult pupils – beginner, advanced and returning students. I have successfully prepared students for ABRSM exams from grade 1 to grade 8, for public school scholarships, and for entry to the Royal College of Music Junior department.
I studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where I was awarded a Master of Music degree in Advanced Performance Studies and a Concert Recital Diploma. I also hold a Diploma in Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree with honours from the University of Manchester. I am formally trained in performance, improvisation, teaching, composition, harmony & counterpoint, orchestration, musical history, theory, analysis & aesthetics.
